Gatekeeper Killing Guide

==>Maplestory Skill Guide List <==

Gatekeeper Killing Guide

Now, you may be wondering, 'Why the heckz0rs would I want to kill a GATEKEEPER?! I GET KILLEDIN ONE HIT! OMFG.' Well, I'm sure all of you would love to have a dark arund or even a BLACK MAMBA ! I have a guide that lets you effectively kill gatekeepers at extremely low levels.

Requirements:

9 puppet

YUP, that's all. 9 puppet is enough to kill every gatekeeper there is :P

Now let's start off with entering the map. Always be careful because if there's a gatekeeper on the portal = instant death for some of you.

Also... for this guide, I will have screen shots and the details will be listed below their corresponding screen shot. I hope this clears up any future confusion :]

~~~~~ Here we go.
Now, THIS is the gatekeeper map. The gatekeepers ONLY spawn on the circled spots, however they are able to move after they spawn, which is why you will find that they are not always in the same spot. The circled spot on the left is special, because when you enter a gatekeeper map, the gatekeeper that is designated to spawn there is NOT spawned until you are on the map for a few seconds, or you are in the visible range of the gatekeeper.
Now, see how the lock on the green door is just BARELY visible from my screen? That is where you want to be if there does not appear to be a gatekeeper spawned from that location.
I am now attacking the gatekeeper. Don't worry, this is out the gatekeepers range. Basically... the gatekeeper has a magic attack range of about... 2/5 of a screen. You will also notice that the gatekeeper's range of the ability to stun you is just larger than it's magic attack range.
This is very important. One of the main reasons that bowman have trouble fighting Gatekeepers is because of their stun. However, if you stay far enough away from their range, you have nothing to worry about. I normally keep my eyes on the far right tenth of the screen when I am searching for the other gatekeeper.
**************THIS IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT***************
If you get stunned while you are fighting gatekeepers, HERE is my suggestion.
As long as you aren't level 120+, you are going to die in one hit from the gatekeeper's magic attack.
SOOO. Here's my solution.
If you are stunned while fighting it (You are 'breathing'):
-Log out. Log out. Log out. Just log out and return to the same channel and try again.
If you are stunned while moving (You are NOT 'breathing'):
-Change to the channel before you and immediately return to the original channel. This will remove your stun.
-OR, you can enter CS and leave it. However I find it MUCH FASTER to spam: ESCAPE, ENTER, LEFT, ENTER than it is to fumble for my mouse while using precious time that could make the difference between life or losing 10% / 70 cents.
I have now started attacking the gatekeeper. ALSO, NOTE HOW FAR AWAY THAT THE GATEKEEPER REMAINS WHEN I AM ATTACKING IT. This is to make sure that I will not get stunned or hit by it's damn magic attack.
Now, here's the part that all of you may not know:
PUPPET IS NOT GUARENTEED TO DISTRACT THE GATEKEEPER UNLESS YOU HIT IT THREE TIMES WITH STRAFE BEFOREHAND. TRUST ME ON THIS. You HAVE to hit the gatekeeper three times with strafe before casting puppet, or else it will not work 100% of the time, and if it doesn't work 100% of the time it is not worth it. Also, I MUST NOTE THAT YOU HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 3 SECONDS AFTER YOU STRAFE THE 3RD TIME FOR THE GATEKEEPER TO BE 'ATTRACTED' TO YOU. Because of this, I HIGHLY SUGGEST STRAFING FOUR TIMES.
I have casted puppet after hitting the gatekeeper three times with strafe. Please, please PLEASE NOTICE HOW FAR AWAY THE GATEKEEPER IS FROM PUPPET. This is a VERY critical point of fighting them effectively. It is not the actual location of the puppet relative to the map, rather relative to the gatekeeper. You want to cast the puppet 1 and 1/2 inches (if you were to put a ruler up to the monitor, that is) between the gatekeeper and the puppet. SO, let me say that again. ONE AND ONE HALF INCHES OF SPACE BETWEEN THE GATEKEEPER AND THE PUPPET. Or, if you guys have a different screen than myself, I guess that's about a tenth of a screen length away.
I have now caught the gatekeeper with my eye. It's following me, so when I run away I always run to the left and stay > 1/2 of a screen away.
I casted puppet after attacking the gatekeeper three times with strafe, but look at how BAD that casting was! It is far too close to the gatekeeper. The result:
Now, the puppet that I have casted has been killed by the gatekeeper because of my ineffective casting. No worries, though. If your puppet ever gets destroyed, simply attack it TWICE (or three times to be sure) with strafe and then cast your puppet again. :>
Whee, killed the gatekeeper! Hawtness, mirite?
And for you pet trainers, the timing is perfect for you to say a command after killing both of your gatekeepers. However, do not try to say a command as soon as you enter a channel, because it never seems to work when you do that (Credit to Proton for that :>)
Mkay, that's pretty much it. I guess I should also say that Gatekeepers automatically try to attack you once they see you... so uh.. watch out for that, lol.
So now you have killed both gatekeepers. OMG, WTFUX AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW?11!?!121229?
Well, if you have to wait a considerable amount of time after killing both of them for the other to spawn, I suggest that you change channels and after you kill the two in that channel, return to your previous one. There are probably 17 ish gatekeeper channels open at any given time (In Bera, more in Scania I'm guessing and less in any other server) so you don't really have to worry. If you are killing with an ice mage, and you both are killing really fast, you should take 3 channels (112 ranger + 108 ice mage = bai bai gatekeeper :>). When I say you take 2 or three channels, it means you stick to those channels and those channels ONLY. You do NOT want to disrupt other people's GK hunting. So kill channel 8, then channel 9, then kill channel 8, then 9, etc. Or 8 --> 9 --> 10 --> 8 --> 9 --> 10 --> 8, etc. It's all really up to you, if you don't mind the wait and want to talk to friends while waiting for the spawn, then by all means don't feel like you're forced to take multiple channels.
Credits go to muah, since I did all of it lols.
ALSO, a tip: training with an ice mage is hella useful because they can just freeze them while you do nothin' but strafe :P
MKAY, if you have any questions PLEASE post here, I will be checking it frequently!
And good luck on killing those gatekeepers xD
