Lethal Squid Soloing Guide

==>Maplestory Hacks List <==

Hello fellow Archers! With the recent release of Aqua Dungeon several new training spots have shown up, among them are the Lethal Squids (Dangerous Sea Gorge II).

Why should you bother relinquishing your beloved Vikings in favour of this far away training spot? Both of the monsters who spawn at "Dangerous Sea Gorge II", namely Lethal and Black Squids do paultry damage as opposed to Vikings.

Lethal Squids do 1500 damage if you touch them and 600 damage with their magic attack.

Black Squids do 1400 damage if you touch them, 150 damage per second if you stand in their mist and 75 damage with their projectile.

Such relatively low damage combined with a mastery of underwater sniping can result in a VERY noticable decrease in HP pot usage with perhaps even an increase in EXP gain.

Sounds great, doesn't it? But when should you come to Lethal Squids and what should you pack?

The best level to come to Lethal Squids at is 92. At level 92 you're 5 levels below the level of the Lethal Squids which means that you can leech EXP in a party killing Lethal Squids (May I refer you to GoogleSearch's guide on Squid Partying:GoogleSearch's Guide to SQPT'sp).

The skills which you should have are:

30 Strafe.

At least 9 Puppet (This is important).

21 Rain (At this level it ALMOST outpowers Strafe on mobs of 3 or more in average damage).

The pots you should carry:

Pure Waters (Or any other MP potions that you are comfotrable with).

Ice Cream Pops or Unagis for the occasional bump damage (I personally use Ice Cream Pops because I lag a tad and can't rely on a triple unagi every 3rd bump).

White Potions/Hot Dog Supremes (Or any other HP potion that heals 600-700 HP or anything else you're comfotrable healing 600-700 HP with).

Your pills, I personally use Warrior and Speed pills, but you can use whatever you find useful.

Air Bubbles could be useful but since you'll probably be overshooting your HP while using potions, the 1 HP loss per second is irrelevant, but if you feel like blowing the money, feel free to do so.

The manner which I found the most useful for cycling the map is going up and down taking out every Squid on the way, I've split the map into 6 areas. The bottom, #2~#5 and the top. That comes to a total of 6 areas. In this guide I'll deal with each of them, how to go 1 on 1 with the squids that spawn there and how to mob the squids that spawn there for maximum EXP/shot. You should only choose mobbing over going 1 on 1 in the case that there are 3 or more squids that can be mobbed.

Before I start, the guide includes images to better convey it's ideas. In these images are several guidelines marked by color.

A blue outline to a platform means that Arrow Rain/Eruption should be cast on it.

A blue block designates the spot where Puppet should be cast after aggrivating a monster, or a couple.

A red rectangle is a sniping spot with the line going out of it leading to the spots where you can snipe the squids at. At times this red rectangle will be a track up and down which one can swim and snipe at a squid.

A yellow block is a spot to stand on while casting AR/AE at a puppetized mob.

A light blue block is a spot to stand on while casting AR/AE at a none puppetized mob.

This guide abbreviates the names of the platforms that constitue the 6 areas. At the end of every mini-guide to a platform there will be an illustration that will also explain the abbreviations used for the platforms.

Now that we got the technicallities out of the way we can get started with the actual guide. :]

The Bottom!

An important part of clearing the bottom is having Area #1's platform A, cleared, that is the platform directly above the right side of the bottom and that has the crate on it.

Start by asting Arrow Rain/Eruption along the bottom from one side to the other (A good idea would be jumping and casting Arrow Rain/Eruption to avoid the magic attacks of the squids already aggrivated), swim up to Area #1's platform C and set up a puppet to the left. Swim down and stand on the crate. Start casting Arrow Rain/Eruption until the mob is dead.

Alternatively, you can skip the puppet and just use AE/AR and then jump up to avoid the attacks, press down and then jump+AR/AE again until the mob is dead, this is however quite unsafe as opposed to puppetizing the mob.

Area #2!

Bleh, cluttered.

Maplestory Mesos

There are several ways of mobbing up Area #2. They both include puppetizing the squid on platform B and then mobbing him along with either the squids above him or below him, there is a way to hit all 3 platforms but unless you've masterred it, you're better off just killing off 2 platforms at a time.

In order to AR/AE the squids on platforms A and B, you must first clear platform C, there is an area from which you can snipe at the squids on platform C as illustrated in the screenshot, you can shoot from even farther away if you wish. After killing the squids on platform C, you aggrivate the squid on platform B, set up a puppet on the left-most side of platform C, aggrivate the squids on platform A, stand on platform B and start casting AR/AE.

The second way to deal with Area #2 is mobbing platforms B and C. In order to do so you must first take out the squids on platform A, aggrivate the squids on platforms A and C, set up a puppet on the right-most side of platform A and rain from Platform B as close as you can get to the mob without being bumped.

In order to clear platform A you can either snipe from the left as illustrated in the screenshot or mob them and set up a puppet below them and come from the right, if there are more than 2 then feel free to use AR/AE instead of Strafe.

Regardless of the way you chose to clear platforms A, B, and C, the way to clear platform D is by standing on platform A1 and just sniping at the squids, this of course after you cleared platform A.

Also, you can snipe the squid on platform B from the area illustrated in the screenshot, stand there an AR/AE the squids on platform A.

Area #3!

Maplestory Mesos

This area has 3 platforms, and can be mobbed up in 3 ways, either only platform A, either A+B or B+C.

To mob and kill the squids on platform A, AR/AE from left to right and stand on the crate and AR/AE to kill them, if there are 2 or less squids then don't bother, just snipe from the left on the track illustrated (Red outline) to kill them. Alternitavely you can mob up the squids of platform A and set up a puppet on the crate and then drop down, that's useless though.

In order to mob and kill platforms A+B you first need to make sure that Area #2's platform C is clear. Aggrivate the squids on platforms A and B of Area #3. Set up a puppet directly below the rope on platform C of Area #2. Swim up and start casting AR/AE and try to stay afloat at the right height. AR/AE until they're all dead, if there are less than 3 squids on platforms A+B then snipe from the illustrated red outlines.

In order to mob up and kill platforms A+C you need to aggrivate the squids on platforms A and C, then set up a puppet on the crate, AKA platform A1. Swim up to platform C and stand roughly in the illustrated area, just make sure that all the squids are getting hit.

Area #4!

This probably isn't the best illustration :\

Maplestory Mesos

Area #4 is very simple. You swim up, lure the squids on platforms A, B and C. Swim down, set up a puppet on Area #3's platform C1, swim up, stand on platform C as close to the squids as possible and kill them using AR/AE. If there are less than 3 squids total then use the sniping spots as illustrated. Unfortunately one is off screen, that is the sniping spot for platform C, go all the way to the left, all the way up to the edge of the map and strafe away.

Area #5!

Illustration:

OGM Spoiler!

Maplestory Mesos

Same procedure here only that you need to make sure that platform C of Area #4 is clear. Swim up and lure the squids on platforms A and B. Swim down and set up a puppet on platform C of Area #4 (Or platform A of the Top Area right above the space between paltforms A and B of Area #5). Swim up and stand on either platform A or B as close to the squids as possible and use Arrow Rain/Eruption to kill the mob. The decision on which platform to stand on is to be made based upon on what platform the black squids are. The black squids cast the dark mist meaning that you can't stand right next to them without taking ALOT of damage and spamming your HP potions. If there are black squids on platform A, stand on B and vice-versa, if there are black squids on both platforms then either use your ranged mob skill (Arrow Bomb/Iron Arrow) or AR/AE on just one of the platforms, provided that there are 3 or more squids on it. If platform A is clear then you can snipe from it's left side at the squids on platform B, if platform B is clear then you can snipe from it's right side at the squids on platform A. If there are 3 or more squids on platform A and platform B is clear then you can lure them and set up a puppet on platform B's right side and then snipe at the squids on platform A with AR/AE. If there are 3 or more squids on platform B and platform A is clear then you can lure the squids on platform B and set up a puppet on the left side of platform A and AR/AE the squids on platform B.

The Top!

Maplestory Mesos

This is a fairly simple area to do, there are 2 ways to do it, one is better than the other.

The superior way is to lure all the squids using AR/AE, then drop down to platform B of Area #5 and to set up a puppet on the left most side. Swim back up and start casting AR/AE on the puppetized squids who should be sticking to the left.

The other way is again to AR/AE all of the squids and then to set up a puppet on the right side of platform A1 and to drop down, get as close to the mob as possible and to start casting AR/AE, or use your ranged mob skill since the mob is likely to include black squids.

The squids can be sniped from the far left, iti'll have to be float sniping as there are no sniping platforms.

And that's about it. :] Good luck!

Disclaimer: This isn't a strict guideline and I'm open to criticism, just make it positive. Since I've never trained at squids with a Sniper, I can't give suggestions for Ice Shot and the like.
