II. INTRODUCTION
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Maple Story is a 2D Side Scroll MMORPG. Imagine you are playing Super Mario
with RPG stuff. Maple Story was created by Wizet and distributed by Nexon. It
was started a bit more than a year in Korea and it has been available in China,
Japan and Taiwan. Now the MapleGlobal has been launched and you can enjoy Maple
Story in English. :)
You start with Beginner class and, as you get more exp, your level will be
higher. Once you reach certain level, you can choose among several jobs and
advance to the new job.
There are four classes available to advance from Beginner class. They are
Swordsman (Warrior), Magician, Bowman and Rogue (Thief). There are several job
advances for each ones and, since you are looking at Rogues FAQ I'll assume
that you are only interested in Rouge, you can choose Assassin and Bandit for
the next job advancement.
I am writing this FAQ because there is too few rogues and because they are
interesting and good. Rogues generally have low HP and low MP. They are weak
and have very low Attack Defense and Magic Defense. However, their attack power
is good enough and moreover they are very FAST!
Now I'll begin my FAQ.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
III. Getting Started
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
First of all, you need to register at http://www.mapleglobal.com . Here, you
can sign up your account. Use your real email as your ID since you will have
trouble finding your password when you forget your password. Be aware that you
can specify your gender here. NB. You will never allowed to change your gender
so be aware.
Now, download the client program and install it. When you start program, you
will see the login screen. Type in your ID and password and you will see server
screen. Later, there will be more world but now there is only one server, which
is Tespia. Choose that world and choose any server. Now you will face character
screen with no characters. You have to create one. Now press 'CREAT' for your
new character. You can choose your hair, eyes and clothes. You do not have much
choice but later, you will be able to buy with your real money to get unique
hair style, colour, eyes and clothes. However, you can get normal equipments
without your real money.
Now, you face the first important step. You have to choose your name and roll a
dice for your stat. Be sure not to use long words as your name since it will be
very disadvantageous later when you trade. Now, you have to choose your
starting stat. You can roll a dice to get randomly distributed stat. They
always add up to 25 so do not worry about the total. The minimum number of
points which can be in for single stat is 4 and maximum is 13. As you are going
for a rogue, your main stats will Luck and Dexterity. It is a bit tricky but do
not care about the points in Luk and Dex. You will raise them later so the fact
that one has more points than the other does not really matter at this stage.
Now you have to get the minimum 4 for Str and Int as they do nothing or almost
nothing for your rogue character. So, roll until you get 4 and 4. 4 and 5 or 5
and 4 should be fine though.
N.B. If you are going for a Str Bandit, you only need to make Int 4 and do not
worry about the others.

IIV. Beginner
=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Beginner is the weakest class but the easiest since the required amount of exp
is so low for each level. The only advantage that Beginner has over the other
classes is that you do not lose any exp when you die.
Just after you created your character, you will see the window which explains
how to move. Read carefully. Basically, unless you changed the keys,
Arrow Keys: the direction you want to move
Ctrl: Attack
Alt: Jump
X: Sit down at bench. You cannot sit just anywhere.
These are the basic keys you need. You can change almost all the keys and you
may assign new skills or potions to a key.
Go and do quests. Keep going and you will be out and facing with a snail. Just
smack it and you will get exp. This is the thing you basically have to do. When
you reach 100%, your level will go up by one and you get 5 stats to distribute.
As you are a Beginner and not a Rogue, your attack power will depend only on
Str and a little one Dex. However, you will not want to use your precious stat
points for temporary use. So, ignore Str. You may be advanced to Rogue at level
10 and the requirement is 25 Dex. Wise plan will help you a lot. This is my
recommendation.
2: 5 to Dex
3: 5 to Dex
4: 5, or less just to make your Dex 25, to Dex and the rest into Luk.
5: 5, or less just to make your Dex 25, to Dex and the rest into Luk.
6: 5 to Luk
7: 5 to Luk
8: 5 to Luk
9: 5 to Luk
10: 5 to Luk
Why putting only 25 for Dex? For Rogues, Luk increase attack power more than
Dex. Dex is required only for equipments or advancements. Never put stats in
Dex more than required.
Why putting in Dex first? You require 25 Dex to advance and, as a Beginner,
only Dex increase your attack power. You want to be strong from the beginning,
right? :)
Do not escape Maple Island until you get 10. If you go out, you will have to
hunt snails again but with more people around you who will KS you and produce
lag a lot.
Do some quests. There are two main quests on Maple Island. Get the Letter to
the Chief and Bigg's Collection of Items are the ones. Do these and keep the
itmes. If you get a Fruit Dagger as a reward and going for a bandit, keep it
and do not sell it.
When you reach 10, go to Kerning City and advance to the next job.
You can use ticket booth guy who will take you to any city at 90% discount for
beginners. (It will cost around 100.) At Kerning City, go into the Cafe and
there, there is a guy called Night Lord who is attached to the ceiling upside
down. Talk to him and you are a rogue now. :)

V. Tips on Raising Stats and Hunting Ground
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
- All the rogues except Str Bandit -
Again, Dex=keep this to the MINIMUM and Luk= keep this to the MAXIMUM. I will
specify required Dex only since all the rest should go to Luk.
Level: Dex
11~14: keep at 25
15: 30
16: 30
17~19: keep at 35 -> To equip Triple-Tipped Zamadar
20: 40
21~23: keep at 40
24: 45
25: 50
26: 50
27~29: keep at 55 -> To equip Double Dan Dagger
30: 60
31~33: keep at 60
34: 65
35: 70
36~38: keep at 70
39: 75
40: 80
Now the pattern changes,
41~48: keep at 80
49: 85
50: 90
51~58: keep at 90
59: 95
60: 100
61~68: keep at 100
69: 105
70: 110
- Only for Str Bandit -
There is one more stat you have to put which is Str.
Str=minimum, Dex=minimum and Luk=maximum. I will speicify the additional stats
to put for Str. Dex requirement is the same as above.
Level: Str
1~18: keep at 4 or 5 whichever is your starting stat for Str
19: put one if you had only 4.
20: 10
21~24: keep at 10
25: 15
26~29: keep at 15
30: 20
31~39: keep at 20
40: 30
41~49: keep at 30
50: 40
51~59: keep at 40
60: 50
61~69: keep at 50
70: 55
- Hunting Ground -
This is recommendation only and you may find better place than what I suggest.
Also, you will find it good to hunt a little bit earlier than the specified
level or later. I will explain the exact place later in another FAQ. Wait for
FAQ on hunting grounds.
1~10: Hunt Snails. Avoid red snails at low level. Maple Island is the best but
if you are out, go to Henesys Hunting Ground 1.
11~20: Move on to Slimes. Slime tree will be the good choice.
21~25: Hunt Pigs and Ribbon Pigs. Pig Beach or Henesys East Forest.
25~30: Hunt Green Mushrooms. Mushroom tree is a good choice.
31~35: Zombie Mushroom and Horned Mushroom. Ant Tunnel 1
35~40: Wild Boar. Wild Boar's area.
41~50: Evil Eye, Curse Eye and Fire Boar. Evil Eye's area, Curse Eye Tree and
Burned Land 1~2.
51~: Drake, Golem and Dark Golem. Dangerous Valley, Entrance to Temple of Golem
and Sleeypywood Dungeon 4.
61~: Dark Golem, Red Drake, Cold eyes, Tauro Masis. Sleeypywood Dungeon 4,
Dangerous Valley 2 and Entrance to Temple 2.

VI. Assassin vs. Bandit and Luk Bandit vs. Str Bandit etc.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
- Assassin vs. Bandit -
Assassin shoots from the back but cannot attack monsters near.
Bandit can attack monsters near but not the monsters far away.
Assassin cannot equip shields but bandit can. Assassin's maximum damage is
higher than bandit but bandit does stable damage.
Luk Bandit vs. Str Bandit
Luk Bandit has more powerful attack power than Str Bandit but also has slower
attack speed than Str Bandit.
Luk Bandit does not have a dagger for 40 but Str Bandit has.
Warrior vs. Bandit
Warrior has high defence and high max HP.
Bandit has high accuracy, evasion rate and very fast.
When die, Bandit loses exp less than Warrior.
Warrior's maximum damage is higher than bandit but bandit does stable damage.
Bowman vs. Assassin
Bowman will get skill to attack monsters nearby.
Assasin can jump and shoot to avoid monsters nearby.
Bowman is slightly more powerful than Assassin but Assassin is much faster than
Bowman.

VII. Rogue - Recommended Skill Tree
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This is recommendation only and you may find yours better than my
recommendation.
- Claw Rogue -
CHOICE 1 for a rich
Nimble Body 3 - Keen Eyes 8 - Lucky Seven 10 - (save up to 7 sp) - Lucky Seven
17 - Lucky Seven 20 - Nimble Body 20 - Disorder 3 - Dark Sight 10
N.B. Why do you save skills? Because MP cost doubles after 10 and the increase
is not huge. Also it will not be very wise to wait up to 20. Around 17, the
skill will worth the double cost.
CHOICE 2
Nimble Body 3 - Keen Eyes 8 - Nimble Body 20 - Lucky Seven 10 - (save up to 7
sp) - Lucky Seven 17 - Lucky Seven 20 - Disorder 3 - Dark Sight 10
- Dagger Rogue -
CHOICE 1a for a rich
Double Stab 10 - (save up to 16) - Double Stab 16 - Double Stab 20 - Nimble
Body 20 - Disorder 3 - Dark Sight 18
CHOICE 1b for a rich
Double Stab 10 - (save up to 16) - Double Stab 16 - Double Stab 20 - Nimble
Body 20 - Disorder 3 - Dark Sight 1 - Disorder 20
Choice 2a
Nimble Body 20 - Double Stab 10 - (save up to 16) - Double Stab 2 - Disorder 3
- Dark Sight 18
Choice 2b
Nimble Body 20 - Double Stab 10 - (save up to 16) - Double Stab 2 - Disorder 3
- Dark Sight 1 - Disorder 20
N.B. Why do you raise Double Stab? I guess Savage at 2nd job is much better
than Double Stab.
Savage is better but it cost more MP than Double Stab. Even in 2nd job, you
will still use Double Stab to finish monsters which has too few HP left to
finish with Savage with its huge MP cost.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
VIII. Rogue - Weapons and Equipments
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
N.B. You always get the medium quality ones from any shop. You get the low to
top quality ones from monsters.
N.B. You do not need to buy all the equipments. Buy only when you have enough
money and you find that it is effective to buy.
N.B. Do not buy KARL SWORD even though it is sold at Kerning City. It is not a
dagger but a one-handed sword. Str and Dex only affect one-handed sword's
attack power and you will find as a rogue, a fruit dagger is much powerful
than a karl sword even though the attack power specified on the fruit dagger is
lower than the karl sword.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
IIX. Bandit - Recommended Skill Tree
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Dagger Mastery 19 - Savage 30 - Boost 5 - Haste 20 - Boost 20 - Endure 20 -
The rest is up to you. You may put one extra point in Dagger Master to max it,
put more points in Dark Sight, put some points in Steal or in Kin Eyes and
Lucky Seven for fun.
N.B. Why do you only raise Dagger Mastery up to 19?
Every odd number skill level, Mastery will increase your minimum damage up to
percentage specified times your maximum damage. Also, every single skill level,
Mastery will increase your accuracy by 1. Mastery is important by its ability
to make your attack damage stable not by increase in accuracy. 1 more accuracy
is not that effective.
Why bother about 1 sp?
Savage 1~10: attack 2 times
Savage 11~20: attack 4 times
Savage 21~30: attack 6 times
So, if you save 1 from Master, you can attack 6 times from level 43. If you do
not save 1 from Mastery, you can attack 6 times from level 44.
Why do you raise Mastery first, not Savage? Savage looks way cooler than Double
Stab!
Savage does not work well without Mastery. If you raise Master first, your base
damage will be more powerful and stable without further MP cost. However, if
you raise Savage first, your base damage will be more powerful but not stable
and MP cost is almost doubled.
At 30, Savage: Attack 6 times each 80%, that is 480%, with MP cost of 27.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
X. Assassin - Recommended Skill Tree
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Javelin Mastery 5 - Javelin Booster 5 - Critical Hit 30 - Haste 20 - Endure 3 -
Drain 1 - Javelin Booster 10 - (Javelin Mastery 20 - Drain 28 - Javelin Booster
20)
N.B. Why don't you raise Dagger Mastery at the beginning?
Lucky Seven is your main attack skill and it will not be affected by Mastery at
all but Critical Hit.
Why do you raise Drain so late? Can't you use Drain as your main attack?
Drain is used only to heal yourself not to attack. Your main attack is still
Lucky Seven.
Why do you give up 2 from drain? It seems that Mastery or Booster is less
useful.
Unlike any other non-magician classes, Claw Mastery not only increases mastery,
accuracy but also amount of throwing star you can hold. Also it is important to
match period that skills can last to ensure faster training. You want to turn
all the skills at the same time, don't you?
Booster at 20: 200 seconds, Haste at 20: 200 seconds.
However, you may give up 2 from other skills. Just choose 2 sps from skills in
bracket and give them up. They do not make much different and it is totally up
to you.
